The Truth About Starting Over

The Truth About Starting Over

Starting from scratch can be intimidating, but it’s worth it. Whether it's whipping up a new recipe or diving headfirst into a life-changing adventure, the unknown always brings a mix of excitement and nerves. As the school year approaches, I'm reminded of how it felt to step into new seasons of my life with no clear plan and no one to hold my hand. I had to trust the process and navigate each day as it came.

A New Chapter in Mississippi

My first big "from scratch" experience was right after Cortney and I got married. Leaving the only home I’d ever known in Gary, IN, and relocating to Mississippi to start our new chapter as husband and wife was an adventure of its own. While I wasn't scared, I knew there was a lot to learn and adjust to. We faced newlywed bliss and challenges, made new friends, and I worked various jobs. Despite the ups and downs, we made it through together. Life had its twists and turns, leading me to land my dream job as a radio personality—a job I never thought I'd leave. But after our first child was born and I became a stay-at-home mom, another big adjustment loomed on the horizon.

Taking a Leap of Faith in Texas

We moved to Texas. After years of talking, researching, and praying for the perfect job opportunity for Cortney, we took a leap of faith with just our savings and a whole lot of hope. It was a gamble that could either lead to struggle or success, but for us, it was a necessary step to truly flourish as a family and as individuals. This was Cortney’s first time living outside of Mississippi and my second move out of state, but it felt like the right direction to accomplish our long-term goals.

Embrace the Adventure

Starting from scratch in Texas transformed our lives. The state brought us experiences, opportunities, and growth beyond our wildest dreams. Everything we thought we’d left behind was merely the beginning of our journey. Our faith filled in the rest of the path. We welcomed our sweet baby girl, Claire, into our family in Texas. Two years later, we embarked on the thrilling adventure of full-time entrepreneurship with Vicky Cakes. Life has been an exhilarating rollercoaster ever since, and I have no regrets. Starting over was one of the best decisions we’ve ever made.

I encourage you not to fear the unknown. Instead, fear not learning and experiencing more of who you truly are. Embrace the adventure and trust that each new beginning brings you closer to where you’re meant to be.
